Luces del Mar  (Lights on the Sea)

The first ray of sun rests on the water,

Scattering golden threads.

Glowing ribbons woven softly, move into the night,

Playing in the bright moonbeam.

The light dances with the water,

A dance without beginning or end,

A display of everlasting fragments.

Luces del Mar  (Lights on the Sea)

Dedicated to Yoram Zerbib

My friend Yoram, a guitar player, performs all over the world, teaches in the Academy and a competition judge. He includes me in his musical and educational activities and thanks to him many students play my compositions.

Occasionally he is a little too spontaneous.

Yoram calls me: ” Hi Dalit, how are you?”

“Hi Yoram, fine, on our way north, Marcelo is driving, I’ll put you on speaker…”

I recognize my music playing in the background and I am surprised.

Yoram:” I’m also on a long journey, just leaving Ashdod with a dear friend who is visiting the country. We’re listening to discs, he asked to hear “Fall” again and asked who wrote it…and now he wants to speak to you”.

I am curious..”Who is it?”

Yoram: “Here I’m handing you over to Vinitsky”.

“Wait a minute, Yoram, do you mean the composer Alexander Vinitsky? Give me a minute, I’m really excited.”

The voice changes and I can hear English with a Russian accent:

” Hallo Dalit, Vinitsky here, I am enchanted by your impressionist composition, it flows so naturally..” he continues speaking more words that make me so happy.

I catch my breath and reply:

“Vinitsky, thank you, to hear this from you is a huge compliment. I have been listening to your wonderful music since I was at your concert here in Israel, but I never imagined I would be talking to you”.

Yoram joins in ,in English: ” On the next visit we won’t just talk we will all meet up, I’ll arrange it”.

I answer in Hebrew : ” Yoram, I need a little advance notice before such great surprises, my heart isn’t so spontaneous”.

I don’t remember why we were going north that day, I don’t remember whether it was the light of morning or midday. I only remember the joy that spread through me and infected Marcelo.

I am so happy to be composing a piece for Yoram. This time, without any advance notice, I will surprise him.
